At The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) we rounded up 2017 with a week of conservation and restoration knowledge interchange.

Jenny Corujo, second year student at the Courtauld Institute of Art joined us during the preservation treatment of two of our precious paintings: a 1932 Portrait of Sir Cyril Kirkpatrick by James Gunn, and a 1923 Portrait of William Barton Worthington by George Harcourt.
Hard-working and committed, Jenny has gifted us with fresh techniques and demonstrated the use of new materials in the conservation world; such as the use of sailcloth for stretcher bar lining. This is a method to avoid marks produced by the stretcher bar across the middle section of the paintings.

We hope the experience has been enriching and Jenny has enjoyed her time in our Grade II listed Edwardian building, surrounded by great works of art by Royal Academy English artists.
We are looking forward to future collaborations with other valuable experts from the art conservation field. Sharing experiences and knowledge will contribute to developing our existing professional network
