Having completed repairs to the moulded plaster ceiling in the Great Hall, our restoration experts then carried out a conservation clean of the ceiling. Here we can see one of the team working at high level on the vertical panels that surround the ventilation grilles. Note the difference between the grilles on each side – the two at the far end that still require cleaning.

Work to replace the main roof light above the upper library is now almost complete with the majority of the new glazing in place.
One Great George Street today closes to the general public as part of its planned refurbishment, and will re-open on Monday 19th September 2016.
The refurbishment project started on 16th May 2016 with access scaffolding being erected to the rear of the building to allow for the works to take place on the roof. Here’s a visual update of the latest…
On 7th August 2015, we announced a refurbishment works plan for 2016; with One Great George Street scheduled to be closed to the public from 20th June to 19th September 2016. The programme remains on track with some of the enabling works, which need to be completed before the building closes down, already completed.
Several surveys and tests have been carried out to enable the design and specification for the refurbishment project to be drawn up. The planning application has been submitted to Westminster City Council and the tenders for the works have been issued to prospective contractors for pricing.
