In order to keep our stunning Grade II listed building and historical artifacts at One Great George Street in peak condition, our Fine Art Restorer Lucia Munoz-Barrena has a constant stream of projects to keep her busy. Here’s a behind the scenes sneak peak at her latest studio work…
It may be summer, but with bookings already steadily coming through for the festive season, we’re dreaming of glitzy dinner parties, formidable food and hearty wines. Read on to get your Christmas groove on, and book your functions now to stay ahead of the pack; smug in the knowledge you’ve already checked one thing off your Christmas to-do list!

As audio visual sales continue to represent a larger and growing amount of our overall revenue, I thought it was worth a review of trends with Eclipse-Presentation’s Phil Clark, our on-site Audio Visual Manager at One Great George Street.
We have proven increasingly successful in gaining AV projects, in particular for larger events where clients want stage sets, lighting, high quality sound and technical support and this has been one of the main reasons contributing to revenue growth. We have recently won a piece of business from Spain. By using Spanish speaking staff both at the venue and our on-site AV contractor, we carried out a site visit with them and did all communication in Spanish resulting in them choosing us rather than bringing all the AV kit and technicians from Spain.
My mum once told me that Valentine’s Day cards should be sent anonymously to someone you liked rather than sent to the person you are already with. Well maybe that was the case once upon a time but for most of my adult life it has been about sending to your loved one.
Well that is not the only trend that has changed over the years; Valentine’s Day or more accurately, St Valentine’s Day has become another ‘good’ reason for us to part with our hard earned money to fulfil the expectations of others and buy gifts, cards and flowers. I am still amazed when I see how much restaurants and hotel rates increase throughout the Valentine’s Day weekend.
As a conference and events venue with a successful wedding business, we of course have a vested interest in 14th February. My cynicism is quashed and I am heartened to see that this time of year remains to be one of the most popular times for proposals along with Christmas and New Year. As a result the level of wedding enquiries increase significantly during the days following Valentine’s Day. On cue this year, on our return after the Christmas seasonal break, we were happy to have received a number of enquiries and will hopefully get a good number after Valentine’s day proposals.
We shall be running another Wedding Showcase this year following on from the success of the one we ran last September on a Sunday. On the evening of 16th April the doors will be opening to wedding planners and prospective wedding clients who have enquiries close to the date. This time round, the show case will take place on a Thursday evening which will be more accessible for many of those who work in the wedding industry, given that they are usually working at the weekends and when they are not, usually want to have some time to themselves!
Our hand-picked suppliers will be in attendance showcasing their products and services, the venue will be fully dressed in its wedding best and you will have the opportunity to sample food and drink from our wedding menus.
If you are a recently engaged couple and still considering the perfect central London venue or wedding planner then register now to visit One Great George Street.
Happy New Year to everyone…. as per usual to coincide with the New Year we have released our brand new catering menu ready for 2015.
We began the lengthy process of creating the new menus over the summer when we were a little quieter. It gives us time to take a look at what other venues and restaurants are serving, check out what is trending as well as review our suppliers. We also conduct some customer and staff research to find out what people want and like.
Following the successful introduction of bowl food to our menus in 2013, we have decided to extend the amount of options available and re-categorise them to make them easier to read and differentiate on the actual menu itself. There are now extensive fish, meat, vegetarian and sweet bowls available, including:
Tuna loin seared and marinated on a pomegranate and avocado salad with tempura flakes and a soy, fresh lime and ginger dressing from the fish selection,
Lamb tagine with Moroccan apricot couscous or chickpea tagine for vegetarians from the meat and my favourite on the sweet section is,
Citrus posset with shortbread crumble.
Another new addition after evaluating your helpful feedback is to offer a combination and packaging up our bowl food and canapé options together. In the past you, our clients have asked for our help and advice when it comes to selecting menu items for your events. We of course are always happy to do this but we thought we would anticipate your needs…give you a little “food for thought” if you like, before having that conversation with your event co-ordinator. We now offer bowl food and canapés collectively as a package price as well as recommending which selections will complement and go well together.
Back by popular demand are the suggested seasonal seated lunch and dinner menus. We realise we only produce one menu per year so we do take into consideration all the seasons in one go; therefore these suggestions are very handy for giving inspiration at a specific time of year.
Also following on from my last blog, not to forget the food labelling legislation now in force (as of 13th December 2014). All our menu items have full allergen documentation available; please simply ask me for more details on any specific dish.
