There is no doubt that summer weddings are popular even though the British weather is somewhat unpredictable. However, while working in a city venue I have noticed that weddings are not as seasonal and are popular all year round. Like many venues, at One Great George Street we have a low, medium and high season. When I first started working here I was surprised to hear that our high season was in fact from September to December and not May to August which is what I had been used to working previously in country house wedding venues.
Although the beautiful St James’s Park is only a stone’s throw away from One Great George Street, in fact you can see it from our front door and it provides great additional photographic opportunities for couples on their big day; we do not have any outdoor space of our own. We could assume that this may be a deterrent for some couples especially if they have their hearts set on having an outdoor drinks reception in the summer months. In reality I have found that when I am showcasing the venue, the more I take the couple on the wedding journey the less the outdoor space becomes an issue and the more the feel of the venue becomes the priority.
Couples might start off by wanting an outdoor wedding, a marquee or a grand hall, but like when you are choosing a life partner, when you know you just know. It’s for this reason that I believe that although it is good to have some idea what you are looking for, it’s also important to not let this shut off the world of possibilities when searching for your perfect wedding venue. Who knows, you might be pleasantly surprised, and instead of a garden filled with white scented roses for your drinks reception area, a city venue filled with heritage, stunning chandeliers and glass domed ceilings might be better suited for the both of you.
